TOPIC OVERVIEW:

This week’s topic focuses on understanding plane shapes through the concepts of parallel and perpendicular lines, properties of triangles, introduction to geometry symbols, properties of quadrilaterals, and basic quantitative reasoning involving angles.


OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

  1. Identify and draw parallel and perpendicular lines.
  2. Describe and classify different types of triangles.
  3. Use correct geometry symbols to label parallel and perpendicular lines.
  4. Identify and state properties of trapezium, parallelogram, and rhombus.
  5. Solve simple quantitative aptitude questions involving triangle angles.

TEACHER’S EXPLANATION & EXAMPLES:

1. Parallel and Perpendicular Lines:

  • Parallel lines: Lines that never meet and are equidistant (e.g., AB // CD).
  • Perpendicular lines: Lines that meet at 90 degrees (e.g., EF ⊥ GH).

2. Properties of Triangles:

  • Equilateral Triangle: 3 equal sides, 3 equal angles (60° each).
  • Isosceles Triangle: 2 equal sides, 2 equal angles.
  • Scalene Triangle: No equal sides or angles.

3. Geometry Symbols:

  • Use “//” for parallel (e.g., MN // PQ)
  • Use “⊥” for perpendicular (e.g., XY ⊥ ZW)

4. Properties of Shapes:

  • Trapezium: One pair of parallel sides
