Properties of 3 Dimensional Shapes (e.g., Cubes, Cuboids, and Pyramids)
Introduction: Each 3D shape has unique properties that define its structure. A cube, cuboid, and pyramid are different in their properties, such as the number of faces, edges, and vertices.
Learners’ Activities:
- Stating Properties: Learners will learn to identify and describe the properties of cubes, cuboids, and pyramids by counting the faces, edges, and vertices.
- Comparing Shapes: Learners will compare the properties of cubes, cuboids, and pyramids using visual aids.
Example:
- A cube has 6 square faces, 12 edges, and 8 vertices.
- A cuboid has 6 rectangular faces, 12 edges, and 8 vertices.
- A pyramid has a polygonal base (usually a square or triangle) and triangular faces that meet at a point (the apex).
Class Fun (Class Work):
- Identify the properties (faces, edges, vertices) of a cube, cuboid, and pyramid. Count and write them down.
- Compare the properties of a cube and cuboid. How are they similar and different?
Home Fun (Assignment):
- Draw a pyramid and label its base, faces, edges, and vertices.
2. Find real-world objects that are cubes, cuboids, and pyramids. Write down the names of these objects and their properties (faces, edges, vertices).
