CONTENT DEVELOPMENT:
1. Procedure/Steps Involved in Rearing Farm Animals
Rearing farm animals means taking care of animals so they grow well, stay healthy, and produce meat, milk, eggs, wool, or help in farm work.
Steps involved:
- Selection of healthy animals: Choose strong and disease-free young animals.
- Provision of shelter: Build a comfortable house to protect them from rain, sun, and thieves.
- Feeding: Provide balanced food and clean water every day.
- Health care: Give vaccines and treat sick animals. Keep the house clean to prevent diseases.
- Breeding: Allow animals to mate and reproduce under controlled conditions.
- Record keeping: Write down the number of animals, their age, feed used, health treatment, etc.
2. Construction of Houses or Shelter
Animal shelter is a place where animals are kept safe and protected. Each animal type has a suitable house.
Examples:
- Poultry live in a poultry pen or chicken coop
- Goats and sheep live in a goat house or shed/pen
- Cattle live in a cattle barn
- Pigs live in a pigsty
Materials used for construction:
- Wood
- Nails
- Bamboo
- Wire mesh
- Roofing sheets (zinc or thatch)
Good animal housing should:
- Be well-ventilated (not too hot or stuffy)
- Be clean and dry
- Be easy to clean
- Protect animals from rain, sun, and cold
- Have enough space for movement
