Introduction
We eat food every day to grow and stay strong. But food must be clean and safe before we eat it. If we do not take care of how we handle and prepare our food, it can make us sick. This is why food safety is very important.
Meaning of Food Safety
Food safety is the science and practice of making sure that food is clean and healthy to eat. It means handling, cooking, and storing food in the right way so that it does not cause sickness.
We can say:
Food safety is a scientific discipline that teaches us how to handle, prepare, and store food to prevent food-borne illnesses (sicknesses caused by eating bad or dirty food).

Food safety helps us to:
- Wash our hands before touching food
- Clean all cooking tools and surfaces
